Social Media Post - 5 Steps to Recreating Your Holiday Party.png

Do you miss your annual holiday party? With constant updates about new Coronavirus strains, it's easy to think we may never get back to "normal". So do we just ignore that and rush back to full blown holiday parties or should we make another attempt at running another lame Zoom Happy Hour? Maybe it's time to think outside the box.

How about recreating your annual holiday party, virtually. I'm not talking about simply getting people together on a Zoom call, I'm talking about replicating the in-person experience. The first thing you will need is the right tool. I suggest using a whiteboarding tool like Miro to recreate the space on an online canvas.

Here are 5 simple steps to recreating your holiday party.

  1. Identify a Theme
  2. Visualize and Illustrate the Journey
  3. Create Micro-Experiences
  4. Communicate
  5. Facilitate

STEP 1: Identify a Theme

Come up with a theme. It should be something fun and exciting. It can be anything from a movie to a time of the year or something related to (positive) current events. Along with the theme, should come up with event colors. You will want to choose 2-3 colors to use throughout the canvas.

STEP 2: Visualize and Illustrate the Journey

You will want to guide participants through the canvas by illustrating a journey. Make it very clear to participants how where point A is and where point Z is and everything in between. Using numberings, paths, order, arrows and more to clearly illustrate the journey.
